Who we are

This website is operated by Blue Box Technologies (“we”, “us”, “our”), trading from 23 Boeing West Road, Bedfordview, Johannesburg, 2008, South Africa. Our website address is https://blueboxtech.co.za and we can be reached on +27 82 418 2257
.

BlueBox supplies industrial lighting, sound and solar equipment to customers across South Africa. We are the Responsible Party for the personal information we collect through this site, as defined under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”). Our Information Officer can be contacted at privacy@noiz.ie.

What personal information we collect and why

When you browse our store

As you navigate the site, we automatically collect information about your device and visit, including your IP address, browser type, referring site, pages viewed, and the time and date of your visit. We use this information to operate the store, prevent fraud, and improve the way our products and pages are presented to you.

When you place an order

When you purchase from us, we ask you to provide the information needed to process your order and deliver your products. This typically includes:

  • Name, billing address and delivery address
  • Email address and telephone number
  • Company name and VAT number (where applicable)
  • Payment information (processed directly by our payment gateway — see “Payments” below)
  • Order contents, order value and purchase history
  • IP address and device information associated with the order

We use this information to:

  • Process your order and take payment
  • Arrange shipping and deliver your products
  • Send you order confirmations, dispatch notices and invoices
  • Respond to queries, returns, warranty claims and support requests
  • Comply with our legal obligations (including tax and accounting records)
  • Screen orders for potential fraud or risk

When you create an account

If you create a customer account, we store your name, email address, billing and delivery addresses, phone number, and order history so you can check out faster on future visits and view your past purchases. You can access, update or delete this information at any time from your account dashboard. Your username cannot be changed once the account is created.

When you contact us or leave a comment

When you submit a contact form, request a quote or leave a comment on a blog post, we collect the information you provide (such as your name, email, phone number and message), along with your IP address and browser user agent string. Comment metadata helps with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Payments

We accept payments through PayFast. When processing payments, some of your order data is passed to the gateway, including information required to complete the transaction such as the order total and billing details.

We do not see or store your full card number, CVV, or banking credentials — these are handled directly and securely by the payment gateway. We encourage you to review the gateway’s own privacy policy, which will be linked at checkout.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the store, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. The main cookies we use include:

  • Cart and session cookies — required so we can remember the items in your cart and keep you logged in during checkout
  • Account cookies — set when you log in so we can identify you on subsequent pages. Login cookies last two days; “Remember Me” extends this to two weeks; screen-option cookies last one year. These are removed when you log out.
  • Comment cookies — if you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email and website for next time; these last one year
  • Analytics cookies — we may use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors use the site. You can opt out at any time via your browser settings or our cookie banner
  • Editor cookies — if you edit or publish an article, a cookie storing the post ID is saved for 1 day

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect your ability to place orders or use parts of the site.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (such as product videos, YouTube, Google Maps or social media posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves as though the visitor has visited that website directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content — particularly if you are logged into those services.

Media

If you upload images to the website (for example, as part of a warranty claim or product review), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Who we share your information with

We only share personal information with third parties where necessary to fulfil your order, meet our legal obligations, or operate our business. These parties act as Operators under POPIA and are bound to process your data only on our instructions. They typically include:

  • Payment gateways — to authorise and process payment securely
  • Shipping and courier providers — to deliver your order to the address you provide
  • Email and marketing services — to send transactional emails and, where you have opted in, marketing communications
  • Analytics providers — to understand site usage in aggregate
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — who host the website and back up its data
  • Fraud screening and security services — to help detect and prevent fraud
  • Professional advisors — such as our accountants, auditors and legal advisors, where necessary
  • Regulators and authorities — where required by law, including the South African Revenue Service (SARS)

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law:

  • Order and transaction records are retained for at least five years from the end of the relevant tax year, to comply with the Tax Administration Act and Companies Act
  • Customer account information is retained while your account is active; you can delete your account at any time
  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically
  • Marketing preferences are retained until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent
  • Support correspondence is typically retained for a reasonable period after the matter is resolved, in line with warranty and after-sales support requirements

Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Be notified that your personal information is being collected or has been accessed without authorisation
  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Request that we correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or no longer necessary
  • Object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
  • Object to direct marketing and unsubscribe at any time
  • Submit a complaint to the Information Regulator

To exercise any of these rights, please email us at privacy@noiz.ie. We will respond within a reasonable period, and in any case within the timeframes prescribed by POPIA. Some information may be retained where we are legally obliged to keep it (for example, for tax or audit purposes).

You can also lodge a complaint directly with the Information Regulator of South Africa:

Where your information is stored and processed

Your personal information is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider. Some of the third-party services we use (such as payment gateways, email providers and analytics) may process your information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure that those parties offer a level of data protection comparable to POPIA, or that another lawful transfer ground under section 72 of POPIA applies.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. These include encryption of the site in transit (HTTPS), access controls on our systems, and regular backups. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Our products and services are not intended for children under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices, our services, or applicable law. The updated version will be indicated by a revised “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
